Listing Towards, Falling Away

Site-specific multi-channel film installation
Charles Allis Historic House Museum, 2010

Weeping Woman performed by Jill Casid

This site-specific work was created for he master bedroom in the historic museum home of industrialist Charles Allis. The exhibition coincided with the premiere of There is no fixing the drift at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. I was intrigued by the opportunity to explore the character of the Weeping Woman in two locations at once; two places in time; doubling and splitting…

Listing Towards, Falling Away places the Weeping Woman in a space of domesticity. The seascape painting above the bedrooms fireplace “sees” itself enlivened on the opposite wall. The woman likewise encounters herself approaching the window from the outside as she draws the blind against the sun which simultaneously rises and sets on the horizon of a receding tide.

The second channel, Sea Change is reflected from the bathroom vanity and hovers above the bathtub where the Weeping Woman transforms into a sea creature.
